W3C (1.1)


The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) is the main known direct international standard organisation for the World Wide Web (WWW…) Following the birth of the World Wide Web founded by Sir Tim Berners-Lee with support from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA) and the European Commission. Their aim was to make the web easily accessible to people all around the world whether they were living in the busy streets of the UK or in developing countries is Africa they did this by making it very straight forward to use as well as standardizing the usage of the web down to it’s simplest form W3C also had guidelines that they liked to follow: To lead the World Wide Web to its full potential by developing protocols and guidelines that ensure long-term growth for the Web.”
This showed that W3C were a organisation with good standards that wanted to be accessible to everyone, W3C is also a very popular organisation with up to 73 groups with some of their members coming from known organisations such as:

  • Microsoft
  • Apple
  • Adobe
  • Macromedia
